Best friends can be annoying, but they can also be the most reliable people in your life. Do you still remember the last time they got you out of a rut? These are 5 things we forget to thank our best friends for.
Thank you for not always having something to say
Actions speak louder than words – it’s true. When you’re crying your heart out or venting, you’re focused on pouring out your grievances and hence you don’t care about what anyone else has to say. And these best friends don’t interrupt your monologue. When words fail, hugs come in. They nod, the listen, they try to understand. They don’t force their opinions on you when you feel your worst.
Thank you for the heart to hearts
Wearing our hearts on our sleeves might not always be a good idea but when you’re around a best friend, it’ the best idea. Sharing you joy and insecurities with your best friend seems natural. There’s no one else you’d rather have those serious and emotional conversations with. Neither would there be anyone you’d value opinions from. Who else would you allow to witness your ugliest sobbing episode?
Thank you for the encouragement
Your best friend is the one who genuinely cares, though it might appear like they’re criticising and telling you straight in your face that your decisions are horrible. Yes, you are allowed to feel angry or even hurt at their honesty. You’re just doing your best, right? But allow the negative emotions to come and go. When you’re done with your pity party, think about their opinions and reflect on your own. You’ll get a clearer perspective.
Thank you for going the extra mile
Be it fetching you from the airport after a late night flight, picking up after you or changing plans just to accompany you for dinner, it’s clear that a best friend accommodates you. It might not be convenient but they do it anyway. They do it because they care.
Thank you for having me in your thoughts
A seemingly random text message saying ‘hi’, isn’t random at all. You’ve been on someone’s mind for a while. Receiving those ‘just because’ gifts or lunch treats from your best friend are more than just an ‘awww that’s sweet’ moment. Taking time to prepare something special and putting in an effort to brighten up your day show that they really cherish the friendship.
Now what’s your favourite way to show your best friend that you care? Tell us and don’t forget to return the graciousness too!
